澳洲英語學習、企業考察及服務學習團

A world-renowned expert in school improvement, Michael Fullan, claimed the major goals of education in this century are the six Cs - Creativity, Character education, Citizenship, Communication, Collaboration and Critical thinking.  The tour was held on 15th-24th April, 2019. Students are offered a chance to experience this 6Cs learning in Australia. Students are expected to have acquired and strengthened their values and sense of caring and affection. The tour, joined by 26 students from three different schools S1 to S5, was not only memorable and educational, but also an eye-opener that has broadened students’ horizons.

We visited three enterprises in this tour — the AUSTOP Group, the Hilton Hotel and the Millars Café in Lara. It was a wonderful experience.

We first enjoyed an Italian-styled platter with garlic bread, minced kangaroo meat, grilled eggplant with a bell pepper sauce. It is really amazing and unique. Afterwards, we had a great sharing from Scott – the owner of the cafe. He shared the reason why he opened the cafe and some difficulties he encountered, it is very meaningful.

From all their sharing, we were encouraged to reflect on the study tour and think critically by comparing the difference between Hong Kong and Australia in running a business. We did not only have a taste of something new, we also heard from experts whose advices will surely be helping us a lot in the future, it is surely amazing.

Australia is quite different from Hong Kong in terms of the educational style and children’s rights. When I when to the kindergarten, the teachers told us that we can't take any photos that shows their children's front face since the Australian laws have strict regulations over their children privacy. Whereas in Hong Kong, it is quite difficult  for us to imagine that would happen in Hong Kong because Hongkongers mostly, if not all, will not confront with others face-to-face because it is very embarrassing. However, the teachers in Australia love the kids them wholeheartedly. They will speak for the children in order to protect their children’s right. Also, Australian children in kindergarten have their say in choosing the activities they want to join. They believe that children have freedom to choose. Although we are adult (or soon), we must respect the children and cannot help them to choose.
